The Northern Hemisphere is in the darkest days of the year as we approach the Winter Solstice, December 21-22. At that time, half of Earth is tilted farthest away from the sun, and we face the longest night. Many cultures and religions celebrate the winter solstice season with wishes for hope, peace, and renewal, showcasing lights, festivals, song, or Yule fires to brighten the darkness.

A Warning…and Climate Action Reflections
I conclude with two reports – first, this red-flag warning from Inside Climate News – the warming climate has changed the Arctic so much that melting permafrost has become a new source of carbon in the atmosphere: Arctic Tundra Shifts to Source of Climate Pollution, According to New Report Card: NOAA scientists and affiliated researchers have documented profound change in the frozen north as U.S. government science itself faces an uncertain future.
Second, Climate Reality looks back on climate action accomplishments of the past year and ahead to 2025 and beyond in 2024 Was a Big Year at Climate Reality.
Finally, I wish you warm blessings of hope, peace, and love in the New Year and beyond.
